Andrew Grover
Providence, RI, School Board - Region 2
Voting day is November 5, 2024!
Hi, I'm Andy.
With two decades of experience as a public school science teacher and an advocate for student well-being, I'm dedicated to making every school in Providence a vibrant, supportive, and engaging place to learn.
Why I'm Running for School Board
As a Rhode Islander, I'm upset how school governance is failing our kids. I have seen first hand how excessive teaching to the test and state mandates have created toxic school environments. Surprise school closures have destroyed and demoralized precious school communities. Families, teachers, and students - know what our kids need. For the first time in my lifetime, Providence is electing a school board. I'm running to put our community in charge of the education of the young people of Providence.

My Goals for Providence Schools
My platform focuses on creating a positive environment in public schools, retaining talented educators, moving beyond test-driven education, investing in enriching opportunities, supporting neighborhood schools, renovating school buildings, and transitioning to democratic oversight.
1. End Toxic School Culture
We need to eradicate the negative atmosphere in Providence Public Schools that stifles both students and teachers. I'm committed to creating a positive and nurturing environment where everyone can thrive.
2. Retain Talented Educators
To end the teacher exodus, I will focus on making our schools places where educators are excited and inspired to work. By fostering a supportive and rewarding workplace, we can keep our dedicated teachers.
3. Move Beyond Test-Driven Education
I believe in shifting away from the relentless focus on teaching to the test that depresses students. Instead, I advocate for a holistic approach that supports diverse learning experiences.
4. Invest in Enriching Education
I will champion investments in arts, music, languages, sports, and career path education. These enriching opportunities are vital for student growth and engagement beyond traditional academics.
5. Support Neighborhood Schools
Our well-loved neighborhood schools are the heart of our communities. I'm committed to strengthening and supporting these schools to ensure they remain vibrant and effective educational centers.
6. Renovate School Buildings
Many of our school buildings are in dire need of repair and modernization. I'm dedicated to addressing these neglected facilities to provide safe and conducive learning environments.
7. Transition to Democratic Oversight
I believe in transitioning Providence schools back to democratic oversight. This approach will ensure that our schools are governed in a way that is transparent, accountable, and truly reflective of our community's needs.
